Artisan Munchies Launched!
We also just recently launched Artisan Munchies, a gourmet family-owned business located in the heart of Wallace, NC. Artisan Munchies approached us with the goal to build an online presence and allow for the online purchase of their delicious products. Building the website through a Content Management System, and integrating PayPal, we created a clean and user friendly ecommerce site.
Atlantic Packaging Launched!
After months of planning, designing, programming and building, Atlantic Packaging launched their new website last month. Renowned for state of the art automation and integrated packaging abilities, Atlantic Packaging craved a website redesign that would build a strong online presence for the Atlantic Packaging name. Being a highly visual website, this site features custom database and flash, as well as an exclusive employee section. Also, embedded within this site is also the Prestige Label website, which is complete with videos and a custom quote form.
LinkTech Couplings Launched!
Hey Blog viewers, I just wanted to let you all know that LinkTech Couplings launched their new website on September 15th. Mimicking the look and feel of their marketing materials we previously created, this new website features an updated look, refined logo and for the first time in LinkTech history, all their updated products are featured online. The client is very pleased with this website and is ecstatic about being able to continually keep LinkTech’s products updated through the use of a custom template. Following this, we plan to create and print a complete catalog featuring these updated products.

BridgePointe Hotel and Marina Launches!
I am pleased to announce Bridge Pointe Hotel and Marina launched their newly designed website on August 13th. This new website features an updated look and feel, new logo and also a really neat Google Map application that allows the client to continually personalize and place in local attractions. The new Bridge Pointe Hotel and Marina is complete with editing functionality and plenty of beautiful images. All in all, the client is satisfied with the website outcome and is now looking into working with us for a 2010 Internet Marketing plan for this hotel.

Protect yourself from email spoofing spammers
We spend a lot of time educating our clients and helping them prevent viruses, spam, and other Internet threats. One of the most common threats we face is email spoofing.
Email spoofing is a technique used by spammers to alter the originating email address to appear as though it came from some other address, even your own. Email spoofing is relatively common, and is usually caused by malicious bots randomly scanning websites to pick up email addresses, and then using them to mass target other email addresses around the world.
If you suddenly receive a big spike in spam that seems to be coming from yourself, you may have been targeted by email spoofing. When a spammer spoofs an email address they will use an email name generator that can send thousands of messages to random names at any domain name. This results in you getting thousands of bounce-back messages in your inbox. The messages that are bouncing back to you are from legitimate mail servers either denying the spam message (that you did not actually send) or letting you know that the email address where the message was sent does not exist.
Unfortunately, once you have been targeted, there really isn’t a lot that a spam filter can do to block these messages from coming into your inbox. They aren’t technically spam even though they are bothersome. If you notice a substantial amount of bounces coming from the same domain name, they can be blocked at the domain level. Other than that, you just have to ride out the storm.
The easiest way to prevent these malicious bots from harvesting your email address is to use a public contact form on your site instead of posting a mailto: link. This will not prevent all harvesting, but it can definitely slow some of it down.
Microsoft releases Internet Explorer 8
Microsoft released their newest build of Internet Explorer today, IE8. Whenever there is a new web browser released to the public and officially out of ‘beta’ testing, there seems to be a lot of hype to follow. Typically the most common concerns or questions about a new browser always fall into two categories: speed and security. With the release of IE8 there is a new topic: compatibility.
Security
A web browser’s security is always a hot topic of discussion. As more and more businesses take their storefronts online, hackers are becoming even more clever to defraud the end user. IE8 was supposed to be leaps and bounds ahead of other browsers in the marketplace. However, it was the first browser to be hacked at the 2009 CanSecWest Conference. This particular vulnerability has since been patched. Mind you, IE8 is a secure browser, just be careful in viewing sites and purchasing goods online – with any web browser.
Speed
IE8 is actually the fastest web browser in the Internet Explorer family, as it should be. Microsoft wouldn’t want to digress in this category. But Microsoft is claiming it’s the fastest browser currently available. Based on my personal testing, it seems just as fast as Mozilla’s Firefox and Google’s Chrome, but I can’t tell if it’s any faster. I’ll leave this one to benchmark testing …
Compatibility
IE8’s skin looks similar to IE7 on the outside, but is definitely different under the hood. So much so, that some websites optimized for IE7 don’t render or display properly in Microsoft’s newest browser release. There is hope though. Built into IE8 is a new feature called “Compatibility View” that will render sites just as IE7 would have. Compatibility view will also remember which sites the user has selected to view in this mode for future visits. This should prevent compatibility issues from hampering the user experience too much.
Will this latest release keep Microsoft at the top of the browser war? Who knows? Only time will tell.

Websites take up space on servers owned by your web hosting company. Simply put, storage is how much disk space you are allowed to use on the server. Make sure you find out how much storage space will be allotted for your website. You should also confirm that you would have the ability to increase your storage as your online business grows.
Bandwidth
In layman’s terms, bandwidth is the amount of traffic or information passed from your website. Most web hosting companies measure this on a monthly basis and charge accordingly for any overages. Bandwidth is typically not a concern for starter online businesses, but it can become an issue as your business thrives. Bandwidth is like storage in this regard – make sure your web host allows you to increase your bandwidth allotment as your company’s website increases in size and popularity.
Other Considerations:
Above all, make sure you do your research. Know what your website requires to function properly and select a web host that knows how to support the programming language(s) used in building your site.
Remember, web hosting is not a “one size fits all” type of business. You should select a company that offers multiple solutions to meet your hosting needs. Look for several different package options and web applications. By having choices, you will ultimately be able to push your website to its full potential.
Lastly, find a web hosting company that offers personal service. Your questions and concerns should be addressed and resolved in a timely manner. Nothing is worse than having to wait on hold to talk with technical support and being treated like “just a number.”
